“If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail!” – Benjamin Franklin
During this phase of the implementation Radiant will perform the role of facilitation partner and will source the requirements from the Client Assessment Phase and translate the requirements into the building blocks required to create the landscape footprint at the remote location (Cloud, alternate Datacenter, 3rd Party Hosting facility, etc.). In most cases the end-state for the client’s landscape will be in a virtualized environment; which is scalable by nature. It will be important to minimize a client’s costs by providing an operational business environment that will provide all, if not better SLA’s and expectations – without the waste of hardware and bandwidth – thus, decreasing the overall cost of ownership.
Some of the high-level activities associated with this phase of the migration include the following:
-
Planning for the required hardware and storage footprint
-
Planning for the appropriate network bandwidth to facilitate the number of concurrent business users regardless of location
-
Planning for the appropriate HA/DR solution based on Executive Business Directives
-
Planning on the installation of additional SAP/Non-SAP software to ensure licensing is maintained (OS, DB, Hardware, Software, Middleware, and third party hardware/software services)
-
Planning on the installation and/or upgrade any additional software components required to support business operations
-
Planning to ensure that the SAP Product Availability Matrix (PAM) is referenced and adhered to – to ensure an optimum product lifecycle
-
Planning to ensure that the migration method(s) minimize the business downtime with respect to how client content (I.e. End-user accounts, Databases), and surrounding business processes (I.e. Change Management, etc.) are managed during this time
-
Planning to ensure that current development and/or other landscapes are maintained during migration
-
Planning to ensure that the client organization is trained and understands the impact and operational aspects of the post migration environment
-
Planning to ensure that SLA’s and other critical processes are maintained
-
Planning to ensure that organic growth is factored into the sizing of the new landscape (Sizing and Capacity Planning)
-
Planning to ensure that all front-end requirements are met (BEX, SAPGui, BI Analytics, Browser Support)
-
Planning to ensure that connectivity to all external partners, printer architecture, is supported seamless
-
Planning to ensure that security with all external entities is maintained
-
Planning to ensure that SAP support services are uninterrupted
